Local Residents Among Record Number of Students Earning Master's Degrees from The University of Scranton
The University of Scranton conferred 46 doctoral degrees in physical therapy and 700 master's degrees, both of which are records for the Jesuit university, at its post-baccalaureate commencement ceremony held in the Byron Recreation Complex on campus on May 28.
"Your going forth from The University of Scranton today is a summation of sorts, a beginning," said Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., president of The University of Scranton, in his address to the graduates. "The effect lies ahead, budding toward radiance. The gospel of light is handed on to you. You're being ignited for the world's well-being and the greater glory of God is Scranton's highest hope."
Scranton's graduate degree recipients represent 38 states including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah and Virginia. Master's degree programs with the most graduates include curriculum and instruction, educational administration, occupational therapy and MBA.

Area Students Recognized for Academic Achievement at SUNY Canton
SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy and the College's deans recently recognized students who excelled academically during the Fall 2010 semester.

To receive President's List honors, full-time students must earn a semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale. For Dean's List, full-time students must receive a GPA of 3.25. Part-Time Honors are awarded to students earning at least a 3.25 GPA on six to 11 credit hours.

Local Students Honored as College Scholars by Elizabethtown College
At the 2009 Elizabethtown College Convocation, 119 scholars were recognized President Theodore Long. It is a tradition of the College to include the Scholars in the opening of the new academic year where first year students are welcomed to the community. Only 119 students out of 1850 qualified for the prestigious recognition.
To be named an Elizabethtown College Scholar, a student must be a full-time undergraduate student who, having completed at least 60 credits in consecutive semesters of full-time study at Elizabethtown College, has achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher. College Scholars.

Local students earn Dean's Academic Scholarships at York College
The following local students earned a Dean's Academic Scholarship at York College of Pennsylvania. The Dean's Academic Scholarship is a scholarship of one-third tuition per year for entering first-time, full-time freshmen accepted by Feb. 1, who have graduated in the upper two-fifths of their high school class and have a combined SAT score of 1150 or higher.
